The topic and the quote that I am writing about is persepolis, and overcoming adversity and challenges. In the book, an Iranian girl named Marji overcomes challenges and adversity from oppression from her country. She also over comes the challenges of growing up. Another challenge she over comes is standing up for her freedom, questioning authority, being her own person, standing up for what is right.
In the book persepolis, Marji over comes the oppression from her country. When she was young, She tries to learn all she can about her country. Marji also tries to go with her parents to protest the king. Another thing she over comes is all the bombing and war that is around her.
Some challenges and adversity she has over come when growing up is all the religious oppression, and from the government, and from her peers. In the country to Iran, all women have to wear a veil, to cover them selves. It its also illegal to have certain things, epically from America. But she finds a way to get around that. As she got older, she was sent to Austria for a few years, where she overcame many challenges such as oppression from the locals, drugs, money problems, sleeping on the streets.
The last thing marji does that over comes challenges and adversity is standing up for what she believes in, rebelling against authority, and fighting the system. She becomes a punk and starts to question authority from the religious police, her teacher etc. She stands up for what she believes in, by not conforming to the rest. She dresses like a punk, speaks her mind, and goes to parties even though its illegal.
